Daniel Princiotta, Ph.D.

Assistant Research Scientist

Daniel Princiotta, Ph.D., is an Assistant Research Scientist at the Center for Social Organization of Schools and the Everyone Graduates Center at Johns Hopkins University School of Education where he leads education research and evaluation studies and provides strategic guidance to federal, state, and local education leaders.

He has published and presented widely on topics ranging from preschool to postsecondary education, with particular focus areas including educational attainment, socioemotional learning, chronic absence, expanded learning opportunities, and dropout prevention. Dr. Princiotta’s work has been cited in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Reuters, the Associated Press, the National Review, and U.S. News and World Reports.

Dr. Princiotta has 23 years of experience in education research, policy, and practice. He led the applied research and evaluation unit for the largest school district in Maryland, provided consultation to Governors and their education advisors at the National Governors Association, developed United Way Worldwide’s strategic plan to cut the dropout rate in half, and led research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects at AIR, Child Trends, and SRI Education.

His methodological expertise includes causal analysis, cost analysis, randomized controlled trials, machine learning, geospatial analysis, survey design, and propensity score methods. Dr. Princiotta has a Ph.D. in education and an M.A. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
